Artist: Gula Volodin
Gula moved to Regina in 2000 from Russia where she worked as a computer science professor at Kazan University.
In 2003 Gula decided to try painting as a hobby. She had taken art studies in school as a child, but hadn’t touched a brush in her adult life. Searching the Internet, she was able to find web sites that offered “free oil painting lessons.” Following the instruction offered on these sites Gula has developed some terrific skills as a painter and continues to branch out and stretch her knowledge of art with each new piece that she creates.
Gula paints everything that captures her imagination: flowers, landscapes, animals and much more. While her work focuses on realism, hints of surrealism are starting to show up in her pieces. Her primary medium is oil on canvas.
Gula has shown successfully at the 2003 Buffalo Days - Art Competition in Regina, winning first place in the ‘Still Life’ category. Gula is a member of the Rosemont Art Gallery.
